Endpoint size simulation feature in Sage X3

Due to the increase in daily transactions, it is necessary to ensure whether the storage space required for your X3 endpoint is sufficient or needs to be increased. Sage X3 has one such feature which allows users to identify the storage space used by a particular folder or a folder that needs to be created with specified folder information or parameters and provides the estimated storage space in MBs. Anyways, we are going to take a brief look at how it works and generally just bring attention to the feature in case anyone wants to figure out how much resources they might need for a specific endpoint.
To start, users will need to log into Sage X3 as the ADMIN account. This will ensure that we have all the proper access to take a look at the tool and associated functions. Users will also need access to the X3 Reference folder. If users do not have access to the ADMIN account, any administrator account with access to the Folder function (GESADS) would be preferred.

First the user needs to log in and then change the endpoint folder to the X3 folder.

Then, navigate to Setup -> General Parameters -> Folders (GESADS)

Once the function loads, click on a new button and start creating a new endpoint folder. Kindly note that creating a new endpoint folder does not actually create any file folders or SQL tables until the user clicks the validation button and secondly, DO NOT click the Validation button after you create the endpoint folder.
Also, the user needs to fill out all the TABs like you were going to create a brand-new endpoint folder or you can just simply copy the SEED folder, with new name and code.

Once you have the endpoint folder created, you want to refresh the left list and reselect the folder. If you look on the right list under OPTIONS, you will see an option called Size. Click on it as shown below.

If all goes as planned, the user should get a spinning wheel and a size simulation popup which will process as shown below. This may take some time depending on your current environment’s resources and utilization and folder creation selections.

When it finishes, it will generate the following grid information as shown below.

Fig 06 : Database size grid

Due to the increase in daily transactions, it is necessary to ensure whether the storage space required for your The most important part of the popup is the bottom where it shows you the total size of the calculated space the Tables, Indexes and overall size would be (in MB). The grid itself shows the table-by-table breakdown based on the folder options selected. So, based on my SEED folder (with average usage), I would expect it to be about 5000MB, that is 5GBs of storage space on the server (both in SQL and flat file).
Just remember, this is an estimated calculation and should not be used as the exact values. It’s more or less a way to have an idea of expected resource needs.

This blog helps us to identify the storage space of a particular endpoint. Also, without creating a new endpoint user can easily identify how much space or resource will be required for creating a new endpoint with desired folder information in Sage X3.
